review

I bought this fridge short notice when a defrosting attempt rendered my last beer fridge inoperable, and I felt a little pressured to hit the Go button on it as my tasty 12oz's of Heaven slowly warmed. But I must say I'm not disappointed at all! It's a great size, looks fantastic, isn't as heavy as I thought it would be, is very quiet, and keeps more than 60 bottles of Sam Adams ice cold and within arms reach with room to spare! My original fridge was a Kenmore job, with a pathetic waste-of-space freezer section (which this does not have) that for some unknown reason Sears saw fit to make the freezer floor out of the cooling element. So of course it iced up like you read about, and I, like many a man before me, took the task of removing this ice seriously (it was encroaching on my beer space as it grew!)...and pulled out my trusty, and ridiculously pointy, pocket knife. So after a bath of freon, or what ever the hell they're using these days to cool, washed over me with a snake-like hiss, I proceeded to slam the door and muscle the fridge out to the driveway where it still sits. Luckily my beer supply was low (it pains me to admit this), so I only needed to commandeer a single shelf in the practically useless "food" fridge as the wife calls it. But knowing this arrangement wouldn't last, I needed a new fridge, and fast. So I bit the bullet after reading a few whiny reviews about ridiculously trivial issues (like not getting cool enough, or damaged in shipping; neither of which plague(d) my unit), even springing for the $4 overnight option (Thank you PRIME!), and couldn't be happier. My pregnant wife likes it so much she's decided to throw caution to the wind and resume drinking. Who could resist pulling a frosty beverage from this bad boy and tossing it back at the end of a hard day? Not this guy! And this fridge delivers with style. Only thing I can think of as a drawback is it doesn't keep the ice frozen, but then, giving up room in it for ice when it could be holding more beer is just ludicrous. This scenario actually makes me shudder to consider.

Summary? Kick-ass fridge for the money and if you have Prime, pay the $4 to overnight it just so you can tell your friends you overnighted a FRIDGE for FOUR FREAKING DOLLARS. Then slam back a cold one for emphasis.

Update 1/16/14: This fridge no longer appears to be offered by Amazon, and is now selling for a ridiculous price from outside vendors. Do yourselves a favor and look elsewhere for this model, or find a comparable model here that still offers Prime (even though Amazon sadly no longer allows things this big to get away with being overnighted for $3.99).

In other news, this fridge continues to deliver cold beverages flawlessly, and other than the kids fingerprints all over it, still looks pretty good. If you didn't snag one before Amazon stopped carrying them, I feel sorry for you. but there has to be something almost as good available for close to what this was selling for (I think I paid $210 for mine).

We replaced a camper refrigerator with this unit. Works great, built decent.. I saw where someone said it was made cheap.. Well it isn't a $2,000.00 unit, but its plenty sturdy. They must be abusing it. As we have no problems with it falling apart. When we got it new, there was a dent in the door from the factory. I called them, and the next week a new one was at my door. What else can you ask for? Thumbs up to Avanti

Purchased this unit for my parents room at an assisted care facility. My parents like it and it works well. It keeps there drinks and food cold. I would have given it 5 stars but I could not fit a pint of ice cream in the freezer section, the ice cream container was to tall.

Evaluated from a functional perspective, the mini fridge gets 4 stars. The door pockets aren't gianormous, but are adequate for a fridge of its size. One shelf is adjustable with a fairly big range. It has leveling feet & the door's opening direction is reversible. The fit & finish is above average - the back is completely flush & none of the coils are exposed. I honestly can't think of anything more I could want in terms of the design.

I'm docking it a star for the door's finish. I didn't read between the lines when I selected the model and assumed I knew what "spotless" steel meant. The picture make me expect that I was getting a STAINLESS steel finish. From the right angle, in the perfect light, at an adequate distance, it could pass for it. Just like a carefully selected "selfie" though, the actual package is less desirable. Most of the time, the fridge just looks like it has a gray door. Upon closer inspection, it's just a plastic or painted brush stroke veneer over a glossy gray finish. It's not offensive to the eyes by any means, but it definitely wasn't the sleek appliance I thought I had purchased.

Have no problems with it so far...was much better than expected...I think the one I got was refurbished because it was offered at a more reasonable price than most are. And with everyone complaining about damage in shipment I was concerned. But only a small dent in the door...doesn't affect the mechanics of it...

The Danby DKC5811BSL 5.8 cu ft kegerator is a very good unit for the price. Plus it is American made! That is not the case for the majority of inexpensive kegerators out there. That being said, since this is an inexpensive model there is good and bad. First let's go with the good: A 5lb aluminum CO2 tank, dual gage regulator showing tank pressure and beer line pressure, enough room to hold two 1/6 kegs without a problem, no problems holding temperature of the keg at 36 degrees, externally mounted CO2 tank to extend the refill time of your CO2, includes a good D type coupler to connect the keg, it looks good. Now for the bad: This is a cold plate refrigerator, so the temperature is constantly fluctuating and a circulation fan is needed (I used a 120mm computer fan with 4 screws to hold up off of bottom and an old 6v cell phone charger to power with the line run through the same hole as CO2 line), Some type of tower cooler is needed otherwise your first beer poured will be foam if sitting unused for a while (I used an old 3 inch computer fan I mounted to a box that I laid in the bottom of kegerator with hose going up into tower), beer line is only 5ft long...which is not a problem for most beers but light beers requiring higher pressures (greater than say 12psi) may cause foam because of speed of flow...a longer beer line would solve that, the pressure CO2 line comes with plastic clamps...need to replace with metal to ensure no CO2 leaks, the 17 inch ¼ or ½ oversized coors/miller kegs do not fit (kegerator is only 16¾ inches deep). Besides a couple of these small modifications needed it is a very good kegerator!
