So, we bought one of those expensive stainless refer units from LG a few years ago. Of course, the $7 spring breaks out of warranty. Of course, the manufacturer wants you to purchase the entire middle thing to fix the problem. Well, this inexpensive spring fits right in place and fixed the problem. INSTALLATION TIP: you cannot just slip the spring into the two small holes and problem solved. You MUST remove the two screws from the hinge holding the middle section and remove it. Then take apart the bottom area that secures the plastic hinge to the middle "flipper" It is kind of a bugger to get it all done without a third hand, but once you have everything in place, simply reassemble the middle section and it will work as new. I am one happy camper not having to pay a service fee and the cost of a new "flipper" middle section.
