review

First And Foremost, I am replacing a 20 year old refrigerator and so would have been a winner with any refrigerator. Having said that, What did I like in this refrigerator ? .

WHAT I LIKED:

This refrigerator is impressive in the first look. Open the refrigerator to see the bright lit LED's that makes food visually appealing. The space is deep ,yet you can spot the food at the deepest end with no issues . Freezer space is enormous, several trays, slots etc makes it fit every type of food , shape and size. The Door In the door is a cool feature where many of the grocery shop items like ketchup, coke fits in, leaving the core inside area for cooked items, left over food etc and still leaving lots of empty space. I hardly use water dispenser or ice cubes and so have no comments about it. During installation there is a LG water filter cartridge that was installed, so you are going to get not only cold but clean water.

WHAT ELSE YOU WILL NEED : Finger prints are clearly visible, so I have ordered Weiman Stainless Steel Cleaner and Polish,12 oz for cleaning the marks off the fridge . Apparently mild soap water just works fine but I have not tried it.

BUYING DECISION :

Your friends will confuse you . Period. One said Frigidaire is the best, another one said God personally supervised making their GE refrigerator, Each of the 12 players in our Volleyball group suggested to buy the brand they have at their home. Finally I settled with an easy choice. Go with what Consumer Reports Buying Guide 2014 suggests. They have professionals who have done some real work on analyzing the products. Their Number one choice in three door Stainless Steel Refrigerator for 2013 was a 28 cubic foot LG LFX28991 and so narrowed my choice to LG refrigerator of 31 cubic feet. Again there were too many choices with little bit variances in LG itself. My wife was impressed with the door in door feature of the refrigerator.

RESPECTING THE EQUALS :

> Every refrigerator is energy efficient. Not worth paying more for any brand for additional 'energy efficiency'. Not worth the cost

> I found this refrigerator's door in door feature little innovative, but other than that most refrigerators in the store were very similar. So if you can find a cheaper 31 cubic foot refrigerator, I will not mind rethinking about it. Just a note, whether you buy a 31 cubic foot or a 24 cubic foot, the dimensions will fit a standard kitchen space alloted for refrigerator.

WARRANTY:

There are lot of digital switches, chips that goes into these appliances. So decided to buy a 4 Year warranty SquareTrade 4-Year Appliance Protection Plan ($125-$150) ,which is in addition to the one year manufacturer warranty. Remember membership stores like costco have a free 2 year warranty + credit card company gives one year warranty . I think with little bit of luck, these have a life of about 10 years . Forget the 20 years that my older refrigerator survived ( still used by an unemployed person). to be safe, I plugged it into aTripp Lite SPIKECUBE Surge Protector Wallmount Direct Plug In 120V 1 Outlet 600 Joule.

BUYING TIPS:

> If you are in the market for refrigerator or any appliance, buy a month's subscription of Consumer reports. Probably the best 7 dollar decision you will make. Remember well intention'ed tips are nothing more than a 'noise'

> Don't fall for 'blast chill' feature. According to consumer reports it is a waste of money.

> If you do not drink cold water, go with a model that has no water dispenser . They are steeply cheaper ( ex: Kenmore 7160 , best value by Consumer reports)

> If your refrigerator is fine, wait until black friday season. You will save more than $200 - $300 on a 2k refrigerator.

MUST READ SECTION ON DELIVERY ( MESS) :

Order From Dynamic Deals, is probably free delivery, but is not a white glove Delivery. When I bought appliances from Costco, the professionals come in, uninstall old appliance, Install new appliance, make sure works fine, pick up and haul away is included. However when buying online, make sure it is not 'drop' and leave.

A delivery guy knocked on my door, ultra rude and for some reason very angry. He said ur door is not wide enough (Beware If you have a single door) , You will need to unscrew your doors so I can bring in. I said I have never unscrewed my front doors. He said If you want delivery, you need to unscrew. If I unscrew it, you will have to pay me $25. I would have been fine paying the extra dollars if the guy was polite, but not for someone who makes you feel little. I told him can you bring it through my backdoor patio which is wide enough. He inspected the backdoor and said the appliance is too heavy for me to roll it all the way to your backdoor. I said the agreement is to deliver it to my home for free so cannot pay anything extra. He was so angry , spoke to his boss finally brought the item through the back door. At the end I paid $75 for him to install the refrigerator, hook up the water line , make sure the shelfs were in place, cartridges were hooked in correctly etc. He did not want to clean up the left over boxes ( which the polite man who took my older refrigerator for free agreed to dispose it off) and would not encourage any talk on even peripheral aspect like what should be the temperature of the freezer ( Check the manual).

If you are from South Florida, when you order make sure the delivery company that is going to deliver is not LITTLE FELLAS HOME DELIVERY, LLC . I sent an email to Dynamic Deals, and they were polite enough and refund the money I paid and little more ( $100) It is really not their fault.

REPAIR:

Just after 5 months, We tried to change the temperature via softkeys on the front to settle at the right temperature. Soon started noticing the vegetables, coke, yogurt etc starting to freeze. Nothing helped except to call the manufacturer. They were prompt in responding, send a technician, who called to find out what was happening and replaced a part. He also suggested not to keep changing the temperature. I was surprised, and you should be too !.

Too much of technology has a price to pay!

SUMMARY :

This is a good refrigerator; Buy with confidence. But don't fall in love with any particular refrigerator. Most 31 cubic feet refrigerator will also be huge, they will also have LED lights, They will also be silent. The difference between each of them is minimal. So If you find a branded refrigerator for less, do consider it. My 5 star assumes that the fridge is not going to break. If it breaks down, will update here.
